ARE ONLINE ROMANCE SCAMS INCREASING?

    • Absolutely Online Romance Scams are on the rise according to all the statistics.  In 2021 there were 56,000

    Complaints about romance scams filed with the Federal Trade Commission.

     

    • In 2022 nearly 70,000 people reported a romance scam with losses hitting a staggering $1.3 billion according to the FTC. The median loss reported was $4400.

     

    • Over 57 million people use dating apps in the United States.

     

    • Not only are adults who are widowed, lonely and looking for true love becoming romance scammers victims.

     

    • Now these wolves in sheep’s clothing are targeting our KIDS!!

     

    • Vinnie Politian on court TV interviewed two different parents of teenage boys.  They committed suicide because romance scammers were blackmailing them.

     

    • Women scammers on Instagram and Facebook lure teenage boys.  Imagine the excitement a teenage boy experiences when a young, sexy girl asks him to send her a lewd picture of himself.

     

    • Having no sexual experience and being curious, young teenage boys are certainly gullible to these love scams.

     

    • Once the scammer receives a picture the blackmail begins.

     

    • Gone are the days of nude pictures in National Geographic magazine. Romance scammers on Instagram lure young people into their sexual exploitation.

     

    • Teenagers love Facebook and Instagram .They are online for long hours without supervision.

     

    We trust our kids.  But we can’t trust these wolves in sheep‘s clothing .So danger lurks when we least expect it.

     

    • Being unable to meet the monetary demands of the romance scammer panic sets in. Fear of their nude pictures being sent to family and friends causes teenage boys to commit suicide.

     

    • It’s unthinkable when an adult sends a nude picture to a scammer. Certainly they panic, but do not send money to the scammers.

     

    • How many more of our teenage boys are going to fall prey to this tragic end?

     

    • How much more can parents do to protect their children from these wolves in sheep’s clothing?

     

    • Should Romance scams and sexual exploitations be part of every parent’s sex education for their children?
